Computer Network and Systems Engineer

Salary: $95,000 per annum plus superannuation, depending on experience and qualifications

About the Role

The successful candidate will take responsibility for the configuration, operational readiness, performance and reliability of network and system services. The role involves hands-on implementation, systems administration, network engineering, complex troubleshooting and infrastructure improvement projects.

The position requires travel to customer locations across Sydney and, occasionally, other locations as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, design, deploy, test and optimise network and system infrastructure.
  • Install, configure and administer servers, operating systems, virtual environments and business applications.
  • Configure and support routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, VPNs and related network equipment.
  • Administer Microsoft Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra ID and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Manage DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching, LAN, WAN and Wi-Fi services.
  • Monitor network and system availability, performance, capacity and security.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex network, server, infrastructure and connectivity issues.
  • Manage system and network configuration standards, documentation and change controls.
  • Perform operating-system upgrades, security patching, software deployments and infrastructure maintenance.
  • Support backup, disaster recovery, business continuity and system-recovery processes.
  • Implement and maintain endpoint-management and security solutions, including Microsoft Intune and antivirus platforms.
  • Conduct fault finding, root-cause analysis and corrective-action planning.
  • Identify recurring technical issues and recommend improvements to network and system architecture.
  • Prepare network diagrams, configuration documents, implementation plans and technical procedures.
  • Participate in network upgrades, cloud migrations, office relocations and infrastructure deployment projects.
  • Coordinate technical activities with customers, vendors, telecommunications providers and internal support teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, changes, configurations, assets and completed work.
  • Ensure services are delivered in accordance with agreed service levels, security requirements and customer standards.
  • Provide onsite and remote technical support when required.
  • Participate in scheduled after-hours work for critical upgrades or infrastructure changes when necessary.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in network engineering, systems administration or infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server and Windows desktop environments.
  • Practical experience with Microsoft 365, Exchange Online, Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs, routing, switching, LAN, WAN and wireless networking.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting switches, routers, firewalls and wireless infrastructure.
  • Experience with virtualisation platforms such as VMware or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery, monitoring and endpoint-management solutions.
  • Strong troubleshooting, fault-finding and root-cause-analysis skills.
  • Experience using IT service-management platforms such as Jira Service Management, ServiceNow or similar.
  • Ability to prepare clear technical documentation, network diagrams and implementation plans.
  • Strong communication, customer-service and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple technical priorities.
  • Willingness to travel to customer locations as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Network Engineering, Telecommunications or a related discipline; or
  • An equivalent combination of relevant qualifications and professional experience.

Desirable Certifications

  • Cisco CCNA or CCNP
  • Microsoft Azure or Microsoft 365 certification
  • Fortinet, Aruba, Juniper or equivalent vendor certification
  • CompTIA Network+ or Security+
  • ITIL Foundation

Deskside Support Engineer

Reports to: Team Lead / Service Delivery Manager

📌 Job Summary

The Deskside Support Engineer acts as a bridge between Level 1 and Level 2, handling more advanced troubleshooting, hardware break-fix, and user issues that require deeper technical skills, while still being customer-facing onsite.

🛠 Key Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite deskside support beyond basic L1 scope
  • Troubleshoot Windows OS issues, blue screens, profile issues
  • Perform hardware break-fix (RAM, SSD, battery, screens)
  • Image/re-image devices and deploy standard builds
  • Support AD/Azure AD tasks: unlocks, group membership, basic permissions
  • Configure email, profiles, and M365 apps
  • Troubleshoot network issues (Wi-Fi, LAN, VPN, IP settings)
  • Support printers and drivers
  • Assist with AV/meeting rooms (Teams Rooms, Zoom, projectors)
  • Handle VIP/user escalations from L1
  • Work with vendors for basic warranty cases (HP/Dell/Lenovo)
  • Maintain asset updates and documentation
  • Ensure tickets meet SLA and quality standards
  • Escalate complex issues to L2/L3 with proper diagnostics

🎓 Required Skills & Experience

  • 1–3 years of deskside/desktop support experience
  • Strong Windows 10/11 troubleshooting skills
  • Hands-on hardware break-fix experience
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory & Microsoft 365
  • Basic networking: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP
  • Experience with imaging tools (SCCM/Intune or similar)
  • Familiar with ITSM tools
